Reason # 58 Visual Aid Series: The faithful STEEDS
Cars have been my loyal sidekicks through the chapters of life...
The Beemers and Mercs strutted in like celebrities—polished, powerful, purring with pride. Others… well, they were more like scrappy underdogs, squeaking and coughing but refusing to give up. The very first one was a Datsun 1200 complete with vinal roof. I called it "Gamor", Hebrew for Donkey. I was a first year theology student when Dear Mum and Dad scrapped the funds together for this little faithful machine. I was truly spoiled! Yes at times I wished the petrol and temperature gages would switch (the petrol gage was always close to zero, while the temperature gage was constantly close to full alert), but still... I’ve driven “luxury with leather” and I’ve driven “please-don’t-break-down-before-payday or you have reached your destination,” and each one taught me something. The fancy rides whispered, “Enjoy the good times,” while the humble little cheapies reminded me, “It’s not about the shine, it’s about the go.” Expensive or modest, every car was a faithful partner in adventure. So, here’s to all those four-wheeled warriors—thanks for carrying my dreams, my family, the groceries, the bricks, baths and countless building material and the occasional bad singing along the way - or loud Abba songs!!
Therefore, in looking back on the journey of my life, I cannot help but feel grateful for all the cars that have been part of the story. They were more than metal and wheels – they were faithful companions, always ready to take us where we needed to be. Through early mornings and late nights, long trips and quick errands, they carried us safely and silently bore the weight of our dreams, worries, and hopes. Today, I pause to honor them with gratitude – for their steadfast service and the countless memories they helped create along the way. Yet another reason to feel BLESSED!
So here is to all the cars I had the pleasure of calling mine!
Enjoy the nostalgic ride with me...
