Reason # 25 PROJECTS

It is raining Projects

As I look back over the past three decades of my career, I am struck not only by the diversity of the projects I’ve been part of but also by how each one has left its mark on me.

From the very beginning, I was drawn to work that challenged assumptions, projects that was trendsetting and shifting boarders and called for deep engagement with people and ideas. What I didn’t fully realize at the time was how much these experiences would shape my outlook—not just professionally, but personally.

Some projects tested my technical knowledge (or forced me and colleagues to develop new tools)  and taught us the value of creativity, innovation and perseverance. Others were more collaborative, reminding me that relationships, trust, and communication often matter as much as strategy and structure. I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, across sectors and disciplines, continents and cultures and it is from these collaborations that I’ve drawn some of my most important lessons.

Each project was more than just a deliverable—it was a chapter in a lifelong learning journey. Some sparked curiosity that led me down entirely new paths. Others required courage, patience, and humility. All of them left me richer in insight and experience.

Looking ahead, I carry with me not only the skills I’ve developed but also the stories, connections, and wisdom gained along the way. And for that, I am deeply grateful.

Why It Was Never About the Money

Throughout my career, one thing has remained constant: money was never my driving force. That’s not to say I didn’t understand its importance or appreciate the security it brings—but it was never what got me out of bed in the morning.

What truly motivated me was the chance to help others. Whether it was supporting a colleague through a challenge, mentoring someone just starting out, or designing a project that made a tangible difference in people’s lives—these moments gave my work meaning. They were the quiet rewards that no paycheck could match.

There’s a deep satisfaction that comes from knowing your efforts have lifted someone else, even in a small way. I’ve always believed that our skills and knowledge are most valuable when they’re shared, when they’re used to build up others, not just ourselves. That belief has guided me more than any incentive ever could.

In a world that often measures success in financial terms, I’ve found a different kind of wealth—in relationships, in impact, in legacy. And if I’ve been able to leave a few things better than I found them, then that, to me, is a career well spent. Lets lift our glasses and toast a few of those projects.
